Family’s Plight Illustrates Adverse Effects of Budget Cuts on Courts

This story illustrates the painful collateral human damage caused by a $170 million cut in the New York court system’s budget. A seven year old boy and his two sisters were removed for six days from their parents care –a trauma which well might have been limited to one night had the court system been able to grapple with the case when it was came to its attention. Instead, five days later when the court was ready to hear the case, the lawyers for the New York City agency agreed that the kids could return to their parents.
